Writing can be frustrating and lonely. This is particularly true for experts, who often struggle to explain their work in ways that are easy for other people to understand.
To ease those burdens, I offer copyediting support to help with both big-picture and small-scale parts of your work. Copyediting is about making your sentences and paragraphs the best they can be. As a copyeditor, I lavish your work with expert attention to help make your manuscript as accurate, clear, and consistent as possible.
There are three types of copyediting:
Light copyedit: a light copyedit is mostly about grammar, consistency, and clarity. It’s a little like a heavy proofread. This is a good level of editing for writing that is already pretty polished.
Medium copyedit: a medium copyedit still addresses accuracy and consistency, but it takes a heavier hand in focusing on writing style and voice. It’s similar to what some people call a line edit. For a medium copyedit, we might revise writing that isn’t wrong per se but could be made simpler or clearer.
Heavy copyedit: a heavy copyedit is similar to a medium copyedit but also focuses on big-picture considerations. For example, in a heavy copyedit, we might move some sections of the text or even remove some parts altogether. We more actively revise for voice and style and take a more rigorous approach to fact-checking.
Not sure which level is right for you? Consider this downloadable table that explains exactly what’s included in each type of copyediting—or, even better, be in touch and we can discuss the details of your manuscript!
